Suitcase Stories is a fun-filled and educational program which allows our students to share their personal stories and experiences then perform them in front of large groups of students, families and guests in real theatres around Sydney, such as the Joan Sutherland Theatre and the Seymour Centre.
The program has successfully improved young refugee student performers' English language, self-confidence, responsibility, self-expression and social skills over some years.
Our deepest appreciation goes to organiser and creative co-coordinator Ms Catherine Maguire for her ongoing, selfless dedication to this truly unique program.
Update: On 9 February 2018, with the support of Rural Australians for Refugees Southern Highlands, our volunteer Suitcase Stories student actors from Holroyd High School embarked on a camp and theatre performance at the Clubbe Hall, Frensham School, Mittagong where their personal stories of refugee experience continued to evoke, challenge, entertain and inspire audiences, young and old, with powerful fusions of spoken word, movement, sound, light and projected imagery.
'Suitcase Stories is shocking, moving and funny. I felt emotional and proud and privileged to have seen it. Australia needs these refugees. More please,' said Miriam Margolyes.
