Below is a message to all Holroyd High School students from Bryce Elcock, former student of HHS, graduating in 2011.
Hello students,
My name is Bryce Elcock and I was a student at Holroyd High School from years 7-12 completing my HSC last year. I really enjoyed my years at Holroyd High with all the teachers and having Dorothy Hoddinott & Denise Carrick as my Principal & Deputy Principal. I felt very comfortable at the school and was very honoured to mix with so many different cultures which I believe has made me a better person and a very understanding one and one that realises what a lucky country Australia is.
Sometimes it's hard to know what career path to choose when in the first years of High School but as time went by I found I had a love of computers and chose 2 IT subjects, one being a Certificate II IT VET Course which I will never forget. I was very lucky to be one of a few select people chosen to do my work experience at Coca Cola and the experience was one I will always remember. Mr Masawan is a wonderful teacher whom I have the highest regard for in making me realise that this was to be my path in life. I received many job offers including an IT Traineeship with the Reserve Bank which was very lucky also but I chose a traineeship for 2 years with the Hills Shire Council at Castle Hill doing a Certificate IV as an IT Consultant at the Hills College which I will complete by December this year. I then will be doing a Diploma in Systems Administration and hopefully after that going to Uni to do a Degree to further myself and my career.
With my love of computers I was able to do well at school thanks to Mr Masawan and not only achieve well in my HSC (just 1 mark off Band 6) but also I have just been awarded the 2011 Australian Vocational Student Prize by the Government which also came with a certificate and a $2000 cheque. I am deeply humbled by the award and it gives me even more determination to do well in my career.
Everyone in life can achieve if one just believes. School is a fun place to socialise but it's what input one puts in to class work that one will reap out later in life. We are all not born to be brain surgeons but if you follow your passion in whatever field you chose and put all your effort into it you CAN and WILL achieve. I am proof if you believe you CAN achieve. I plan to make a difference in life and thanks to all the wonderful teachers I believe I will and with a big thank you especially to Mr Masawan for guiding me in the right direction.
Good luck to all the students at Holroyd High. I hope like myself you all find your niche in life and all achieve BIG. Just remember BELIEVE & YOU WILL ACHIEVE no matter what field you chose.
Kind Regards,
BRYCE ELCOCK
