Years 9 to 10

In Years 9 and 10 students are placed in classes based on their performance in Stage 4 and language background other than English (LBOTE) status.

In Year 9 students engage with units of work which focus on Australian texts, novels, poetry and drama. These units aim to develop student writing, representation, expression and expose students to a wide range of texts in the community.

Year 10 students complete units of work which focus on advertising and persuasive language, thematic studies, visual texts and Shakespearean drama. Students have examined topics such as war and peace, justice and making choices.

The overall aim for Stage 5 is to further develop skills in composing and responding to an increasingly sophisticated, complex and wide range of texts in the modes of reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing and representing.

Students who are interested in furthering their skills in debate and public speaking should register their interest with Miss Marquez, who is coordinating the Holroyd High School Stage 5 debate team this year.
