Our talented students raise the roof at Wot Opera!
Holroyd High students have been working very hard over the last month in preparation for their Wot Opera performances at the Seymour Centre. Over the last 4 Mondays the team from Opera Australia have come to work with the students as they created their very own Opera from start to finish.
The day finally came and as the bus took off from the front of school there was an air of excitement and nervousness amongst the students. As soon as we arrived at the Venue it was clear that our students had the focus that was required of them to get the most out of the final stages of this process. After a gruelling 4 hours of rehearsal, Holroyd took to the stage as the last school to complete their dress rehearsal, we were all blown away by how far they had come- and how amazing their performance was!
We were rewarded with the honour of closing the show, and all of us were excited that the crowd would be going home with our catchy and sophisticated songs in their heads. As we awaited backstage the nervous energy grew, but the students remained focused at all times- they were ready!
The performance itself was simply outstanding. From the moment the curtain was raised the students gave their all, and it resulted in an amazing performance that had the crowd highly engaged. As they sang their last song together, with great passion and vigour, the crowd began to clap in unison- it was clear that they were in awe of what our wonderful students had created!
It is important that we acknowledge the work of our students. All members of this cast were fantastic- they put in so much work and were such a pleasure to work with. It was a range of ages and backgrounds, but all students worked so well to achieve their goals. Taniela Moala and Camille De La Cruz were inspirational as the leads in our opera. They both had the audience in the palm of their hands from the first note that they sang, until the final curtain was lowered. We were blessed to have such special voices on stage. We were also well served by Michael Reyes and Sami Mohieldan in the other lead roles. Their energy and passion was infectious and they continue to grow each day as performers. We were also very lucky to have some dedicated senior students- Maheen, Bianca and Amnie, we can't thank you enough for your time and leadership during this process.
A massive thanks again to Murray, Dan and Dave from Wot Opera. They are amazing and the students loved every minute that they spent with this awesome team.
What an amazing experience- we can't wait for next time!
Stay tunned for some video from this wonderful day.
